Exploring ways to deepen your faith and improve your connection with God.

[Bible passage]

House Groups are groups of up to around twelve people that meet usually once a fortnight in someone's home to discuss the bible in more depth than is possible in a sermon or talk.

Some House Groups are now meeting in person, and some are continuing to meet via Zoom.

What happens at a House Group meeting?

We have a time of worship, perhaps with some music, either listening or singing. We then look at the Bible together and discover how to apply it to our daily lives, before bringing one another’s needs to God in prayer. Meetings last around two hours and include time to catch up socially.

Why join a House Group?

  • To get to know other church members in a more informal setting. This enables us to form strong and genuine friendships with other Christians.
  • To look at God’s word in more depth with more time for discussion. We can learn how to apply God’s word to our lives, and freely and openly ask questions.
  • To help us grow in our Christian lives and deepen our relationship with God. We can discover and use our spiritual gifts and seek to understand God’s will for our lives.
  • To pray for each other, the church, our neighbourhood and the world and to be encouraged as we see prayers answered.
  • To build each other up, support and care for each other and grow in faith together.

Pray without ceasing.

Prayer is an important part of who we are as Christians as we seek to spend time in God’s presence and allow him to shape us, as well as bringing before him the needs of our world, community, and church.

There are many opportunities to pray – here are a few.

Daily Prayer 10:00am Online and in person

Daily prayer at 10:00am is on Facebook on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. On Wednesdays you can join in-person at St Mary's.

The services use the Ffald-y-Brenin form of Morning Prayer.

Prayer Requests

As the family of God in Eversley and Darby Green we are very willing to pray for you and difficult situations that you face.

To make such a request, please email or ring a member of our clergy team:

  • Rev. Rachel Hartland
  • 0771 794 2669
  • Every day except Saturday

We have a small group of people who will then be notified confidentially of your prayer request and commit to pray for you regularly.

Prayer down my Street

We have created a giant map of the parish of St Mary's. We ask everyone to commit to praying every week for two streets.

If you live in the parish, one of these is your own. The other is another which no one else has yet committed to praying for. If you don't live in the parish, then we'd ask you to commit to 2 streets which no one else is praying for. If you are fit enough, perhaps you could go and visit the street you are committing to pray for, and prayer walk it. But if not then the act of praying from home for the people, buildings and communities represented by that street is a key indicator to God that we are serious about asking him to bless every person in our area with his love.

Praying for each street once a week or more frequently will also, we pray, open up opportunities in these areas for God to act. Everyone can do this, so please do sign up and we will give you something to help remind you of your commitment to pray.

10 in 10,000

Alongside praying for our community, we also want to ask you to commit to praying for our Churches.

Did you know that there are 10,080 minutes in a week? I'm asking you to commit 10 of them (or 0.1%!) to pray specifically for your church.

Our churches face huge pressures at the moment. In human terms we have neither the volunteers, the resources, nor the financial capacity to carry on functioning in the short to medium term. To be able to carry out our core mission of sharing the Good News of Jesus through word and action to those in our parishes, we need God to guide us and to step in with his resources to help us. Regular committed prayer for our churches for 10 minutes each week is a way that every single person, regardless of physical ability, can help.

We will commit as a benefice leadership team to send out a list each month of the particular things or areas that we want prayer for, and wherever possible let you know how and when God answers our prayers and the signs of hope we see. Everyone can do this, so please do sign up and we will give you something to help remind you of your commitment to pray.
